Bite size smoked beef and foie gras sandwiches! Luxurious or what! Both taste very full-bodied and rich (no pun intended!).

I guess you only see mango and prawn croissant in Singapore and not anywhere in Europe. Such a local yet delicious variation!

The fried stuff are nothing to shout about, but the potato balls are nice though, crispy on the other, soft and rich inside!

I can't count how many failed Creme Brulee I have tried in Singapore, but this one is the real thing! The caramelised sugar on the surface is thin and crispy while the custard itself is simply eggy!

Scone is a must in English hi-tea, and whipped cream and jam are must for the scones! The scones are really rich and sweet, but the whipped cream magically makes it "lighter"!

Not really a cake fan myself, but the chocolate cakes really show you the meaning of "Death by Chocolate"!

Didn't really like the light Prince of Kandy tea that I ordered initially, but this Cafe Panna is real good! Fragrant and strong espresso with just a little dash of whipped cream!

Bread for Lunch - Focaccia with sardine

After having tried all wholemeal and multigrain breads in the supermarket, I really can't bring myself to buy another loaf for lunch. In fact, the only bread I would really love to have a bite then was a good double cheese burger! Ahhhh~~

Of course, I was still conscious of the calories and fat content in a double cheese burger, so instead of walking straight over to Mac, I u-turned to the other bakery at a corner. Still thinking of my double cheese burger, I bought a focaccia bun from this ATAS Swiss Bake. Yah, I know facaccia is a kind of Italian bread covered with lotsa herbs and even more... olive oil! But since it is made of wheat flour, I guess it's not that bad right? (well, at least better than a double cheese burger, right?)

The focaccia bun has a very strong garlic/herb fragrant, while tasting very soft and chewy. It actually tasted very well with the sardine! Which is kinda expected because, just like pizza, focaccia goes very well with tomato paste. The few lettuce leaves I added complemented the whole sandwich seamlessly with its sweetness and freshness as well! On the whole, it was a good sandwich for lunch, and yap, I forgot all about my double cheese burger!

Next time, Mac!

Bread for Lunch - Sardine and cheese sandwich

If you're lactose intolerance and you've drank so much soya milk that you think you started to look like Mr Bean, another good source of calcium will be to get a can of the good old Sardine because one fish will give you 100mg of calcium already!

And so I bought a can of Spicy Lime flavoured sardine, spread it on 3 slices of Low GI Nutri Multi-Grain bread, slap on a piece of low fat cheese, and TADA! My Lunch was prepared in less than 5 minutes.

When it was finally lunch time, I suddenly had the idea "hey, why not heat it up in the microwave oven? Maybe the sardine won't taste so fishy then?". But boy I was so wrong to do that to the sandwich! The whole sandwich was heated up alright, but the bread became kind of soft and soggy as well! But luckily the melted cheese blended well with the heated sardine (which indeed had no fishy taste after heated up), so it was not so bad.

But I guess I still prefer a toaster...

Bread for Lunch - No Mom, the NTUC aunty didn't bully me

After eating all the different kinds of tasteless chicken luncheon, I really need some meat that has the taste of... meat! So I went to NTUC to get myself some honey baked ham. However instead of the "normal" version, I got the shaved version. Shaved ham is also honey baked ham, cut from the same chunk of meat, the only difference is that it is sliced very thin. So thin that you'll need to stack a few pieces together in the sandwich, so thin that my mom thought that the NTUC aunty was being unfair to me...

MOM: Cloudy, did you get the ham from that aunty that we usually get our ham from?

(Oh yes, even in the NTUC, my mom knows who sells what at every single counter, from fishes to vegetables to, oh yes, ham! Talk about Aunty PR Power!)

CW: Nope, another aunty packed that for me!
MOM: Ah! See! She bullied you!
CW: What?!?
MOM: Did you see what you've bought? She has packed for you bits and pieces of leftovers! They're all thin and broken!

Oh well... and so I carefully explained to my mom how shaved ham is supposed to be thinly sliced and that I was not being "bullied". But she was still skeptical until the point when I mentioned that shaved ham is very common in the ATAS ColdStorage, and when she felt that since the Ang Mors like it that way, it should be normal!

Anyway, go pack some shaved ham into some slices of multi-grain bread, add a piece of low-fat cheese, spread some butter (thinly please!) and shower some black pepper, and you've got yourselves a delicious sandwich! Try it!

Bread for Lunch - Baked beans will always go well with bread!

The British loves to have their toast with baked beans and a sunny side up. And baked beans is not only nutriitious, but very economical in UK. While we were studying there, one normal can of baked beans costed less than S$1! And their beans look really cute as well, about just half the size of our Singapore beans! But the taste is still the same of course! The canned tomato paste taste!

Today's lunch is gonna be baked beans and smoked BBQ cheese (yah, I know it's the same cheese again, but I have to finish the pack of 12 yeh...) on corn bread. The sweetness of the corn bread, plus the distinctive tomato taste of the baked beans, add that to the fullness of the salty smoked BBQ cheese, marvelous!

Though baked beans is not part of our usual breakfast in Singapore (as compared to the popular zui kway and fried bee hoon etc), we do have quite a range of selection of these beans. There is the normal one, the spicy one (hey, anything and everything has the spicy version here!), the cheese one, the vegetarian one etc. Of course the health and weight conscious me will get the low fat one!

As for the high fiber one, that is one can of beans that I don't get it. One portion of normal baked beans is already containing about 6g of fiber, which is like a quarter of our recommended daily intake. You just have to add in a couple of fruits and vege to make it 100%. So unless you really hate fruits and vegetables, you really don't have to rely on your high fiber baked beans to get your fiber of the day!

Bread for Lunch - Mushroom luncheon with BBQ cheese with Japanese rice seasoning!

Again, I've bought a hundred grams of practically tasteless mushroom luncheon. So I guess these mushroom and carrot luncheons are just colorful luncheons that taste... tasteless? And so I opened the fridge door and looked around for help. Caught this packet of Japanese rice seasoning sitting quietly at a corner and decided to give it a try. Hey, if these seasoning can give tasteless white rice great Japanese flavor, why not to colorful tasteless luncheons?

So here we go... corn bread plus mushroom luncheon, plus smoked BBQ cheese, plus salmon rice seasoning, and one bite! And that was one rich bite! The salmon, seaweed and sesame taste from the rice seasoning merged so well with the sweetness of the corn bread and smoked taste of the cheese that it actually leveled up the whole sandwich! My cheap local sandwich has become an ATAS Japanese sandwich! Cool!

Friends, you must really try this! Next time you eat your sandwich, add in some Japanese rice seasoning! Oh... where to get them? Hey, you can get them at just 2 dollars at Daiso!

Bread for Lunch - Carrot chicken luncheon and BBQ cheese sandwich

Mom complained that the chicken luncheon that I bought previously was practically tasteless, so this time round, I bought the carrot chicken luncheon instead, thinking that at least there is going to be some taste of carrot.

But no, it didn't... Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough (okay, I was expecting STRONG carrot taste like the Pokka carrot juice), but I really couldn't taste any carrot out of the luncheon. But hey, if the luncheon is not strong, just get stronger cheese and bread!

So in the end, I tied the carrot chicken luncheon up with smoked BBQ cheese and Fruit & Grain Bread. The "smoke" and "BBQ" taste from the cheese was there but not very strong as well, but the cheese does have a fuller taste than those low fat cheese. The Fruit & Grain Bread is really nice with abundant raisins and the sweetness of the bread actually goes well with the luncheon and cheese!

To make it even better, I baked the sandwich in the oven for 5-10 minutes to melt the cheese! Yum!

Oh we forgot... iPad does not support Flash

Today, our female colleagues wish to take a look at the iPad which created such a big hoo-haa. And this is what happen when you pass an iPad to a non-IT lady...

First question was "Wah... so many fingerprints! But don't have such a big screen protector right?"

Upon knowing that it is on WIFI, one of them clicked on Safari with great excitement. But her excitement didn't last too long because she surfed to Facebook and after a few clicks, encountered the No-Flash error.

"Like that cannot play my Pet Society lor? Oh... then also cannot harvest my crops leh!"

If Apple is keen on taking in this group of customers, they better build in Flash support on release 2...

iPad out of the box

The iPad created a huge commotion in the office when it is finally here! All in the team fought to hold it, touch it and sweep their fingers on it, those from the nearby departments tried to take a glimpse of it, and the IT guys even offered to exchange their 32" Samsung LCD TV with it!

So what did we do with it now that it is in our hands? Firstly and most importantly, the must-do type-anything-on-the-keyboard test! Ok, proved can put on table and type comfortably on it... Next! We managed to get the IT guys to key in the wireless router password to go online! But our LAN is kinda slow though... Next! Watched a HD video on Youtube, and the color and resolution is indeed fantastic! The speakers abit soft though, but hey, that's why we've got portable speakers! Next! My favourite - photos viewing!

But for some reasons, the iPad's bluetooth refuses to detect any nearby bluetooth devices so we couldn't transfer any photo over, so we ended up looking at Flickr... but still, nice colors and resolution again! Someone suggested it can be used as a fine digi photoframe, but... abit too expensive right?

My manager suggested that the iPad will be great for reading on bed, which is really true. After all, it's so precious and not very light, so I can't imagine holding it with one hand and viewing it while standing in an overcrowded MRT train...

Now we just need to get hold of some games on the iPad...

Bread for Lunch - Corn bread with Teriyaki mackerel

I've been having tuna too often too much and when I saw Teriyaki mackerel, I decided to give it a try. Just in case it tastes too fishy, instead of the regular wholemeal breads, I bought the sweeter and more fragrant corn bread to go with the fish.

The corn bread from Gardenia is white bread, but at just 141kcal for 3 slices, it can be considered as low cal food. And together with the low cal mackerel, the meal will be pretty calories friendly.

Surprisingly, the combination was fantastic! The sweetness and fragrant of the corn bread totally went well with the slight saltiness of the Teriyaki mackerel! I'm sure going to try out corn bread with sardine next and see if it can overcome its fishiness as well!

Bread for Lunch - Healthy version of Elvis' favourite

Do you know what is Elvis Presley's favourite sandwich? Toasted bread slices with peanut butter, sliced banana, and fried bacon. Honey is sometimes included. And the sandwich is frequently cooked in a pan or on a griddle. Now you know why he ended up looking more like Garfield before he died.

Today I've come out with a healthier version of Elvis' favourite. Swap the toasted white bread with 3 slices of Softmeal bread from Sunshine that'll cost you just 210kcal, and the fried bacons with chicken ham. The banana and peanut butter can remain though. And there you are! A much healthier version and tastes not so bad as well!

All of us know that turkey breast is good for you, better than those pork ham anytime! But do you know that you can't get turkey breast in NTUC or Giant? Perhaps because of the high price of these imported turkey breast (erm... you know we don't rear turkey here in Singapore right?), as just two big slices will cost you more than 4 dollars!

The Multi-Grain bread from Gardenia gives you 237kcal in 3 slices, which you can easily burn away with a 30mins jog. What I really like about it is the abundant of seeds (I guess flex seeds?) and grains in it.

The aunty at NTUC said that the honey glazed chicken is made from chicken breast so it's supposed to be lean. But to me, it just taste like... hmm... ham... Seriously, anybody knows how does a fatty chicken "ham" taste like?

The fruit & grain bread from Sunshine is really filling at 104kcal per slice! Guess I'll have two slices instead of three next time round...

It's Chinese New Year again, and time for Singaporeans to decorate their homes with beautiful flowers! Though Singapore is a tropical country, this is the time when flower marts all over Singapore will be selling spring flowers that are supposedly only suitable for colder weather. Usually, these spring flowers barely last after the 15 days of Chinese New Year. But still, Singaporeans are happy to bring them home, just to be happy for the new year!

As the sign says it, this is the entrance to the Casino. Those "MRT gates" are categorized into Singaporeans/PR and Foreigners. So as to avoid the situation where a chao ah beng or gold-chained uncle queues behind our precious rich VIP ang moh tourist?

No idea what is a "Casino Entry Levy" and where this big gate leads to... The gate deco reminds me of the coming Chinese New Year though... and why is this the only place where there is a Chinese translation?

Expensive shops line the shopping gallery. Not stuffs that an average Singaporean could afford. But then again, they are not the target audience, so I suppose it doesn't matter.

They do have some neat looking lighting on the ceilings.

These contemporary statues look kinda misplaced in the what looks like ancient Italian themed hotel lobby to me. Maybe fusion?

The restaurant in Hard Rock Cafe Hotel. The staff in Hard Rock Cafe Hotel are the only ones that greeted us with friendly smile. The rest in the rest of Resorts World? They ignored us as if we are not real guests (maybe we looked like we were there to fix the computer?), and one at Hotel Michael told us "This place is not open for the (poor) public yet" sternly.

You don't need to go to a posh Korean restaurant to eat authentic Korean food. Sometimes you just need to spend a few dollars at a food court.

Instant bowl noodles imported from Hong Kong, and a very Hong Kong flavor indeed - Prawn wanton soup!

The dry instant noodles are not like those typical instant noodles. In fact this looks more like dried handmade wanton mee to me!

Iced Kopi-C, Prata and Bak Kut Teh

At the cafe outside the zoo, I saw the most expensive iced kopi-C I've ever seen at more than SGD3! Why? Because it's extra extra grande!

The Cheese Prata Shop is a popular place for university students to go for their prata craves. The Banana and Cheese Prata is pretty tasty, with cuts of sweet ripe bananas and matching cheesy texture. On the other hand, the Mushroom Prata is kinda like plain prata with can mushroom slices slotted into it. Tasted plain, dry and tasteless.

Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh is a popular supper spot and their famous Bak kut teh is no joke! Their peppery white soup (refillable!) and tender ribs are to die for! Besides the soup, side dishes are important as well, and their salted vegetables and braised bean curds are tasty but not too salty at the same time. What are those big pots at the back? The side dishes of course!

The Cheese Prata Shop sells all kinds of pratas but I still prefer the old school egg prata.

Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh serves good Bak Kut Teh but be prepared to pay. A meal for 3 consisting of 3 bowls of ribs and rice, 1 plate of salted vegetable and 1 plate of braised bean curds will set you back with about SGD27.

Roast chicken with samba sauce. The oily yet crispy looking skin plus the red and hot looking samba sauce, how could you even resist?

Vivocity is a huge shopping mall by the sea and overlooking Sentosa island. From there, tourists could take the monorail to Sentosa. At the roof top, there are pools of water for the children to play in.

These durians are sold and eaten on the spot at 717 Durian store in Kovan. Customers simply order the durians which are sold by weight, and the staff will open up the durian for them at the table for immediate consumption. Since these are good durian, expect to pay for them. Drinking water are served free for their customers.
